U.S. Senate candidate Sara Gideon released the following statement in response to news that the Supreme Court will hear a case on overturning the Affordable Care Act, again putting in jeopardy the health care protections that millions of Americans rely on:

“Senator Collins has voted more than a dozen times to weaken and undermine the health care law, and two years ago, she was a critical vote for the bill that led to this lawsuit to overturn the health care law and eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions.

“Countless Mainers and Americans rely on these health care protections for affordable health insurance. That’s why as Speaker of the Maine House, I led the legislature to pass a law putting key provisions of the federal health care law into place, including making sure that no one with a pre-existing condition can be discriminated against no matter what happens in the courts. That’s the kind of leadership we need in Washington, and that’s exactly why I’m running.”
