U.S. Senate candidate Sara Gideon released the following statement in response to the Fifth Circuit Court ruling on the lawsuit to end protections for people with pre-existing conditions:

“Two years ago this week, Senator Collins was a critical vote for the corporate tax giveaway that led to the lawsuit to eliminate protections for people with pre-existing conditions. Today’s Fifth Circuit ruling on this lawsuit poses a direct threat to the protections countless Mainers and Americans depend on.

“As Speaker of the Maine House, I led the legislature to pass a law putting protections in place for people with pre-existing conditions so that no matter what happens in the courts, Mainers will not face uncertainty about their coverage. That’s the kind of leadership we need in Washington — someone who will fight for Maine families, not special interests, and that’s exactly why I’m running.”
